Prokofiev: Six Pieces from the ‘Romeo and Juliet’
Shostakovich: Preludes, Viola Sonata

This recording of Russian music brings together Prokofiev’s extraordinary depiction of young romantic love with Shostakovich’s deeply touching musical farewell, written during his final illness. The character of the viola provides a compelling voice for both.

The title of Shostakovich’s ‘Preludes’ does little to prepare one for the enchanting nature of these pieces, which are miniature masterpieces of character.

Music played by Robin Ireland (viola) & Tim Horton (piano); Produced by Nimbus Records (Wyastone Estate Limited), 2010. Buy online at Nimbus RecordsApple Music.
