Robin Ireland Viola

Head of Chamber Music at the Birmingham Conservatoire of Music, he was violist with the celebrated Lindsay String Quartet for twenty years till it disbanded in 2005. Since then he has developed his career as a soloist, guest-led the viola sections of major UK orchestras, worked as a freelance chamber musician and become a highly respected teacher.

Quartet No. 1: Fantasia on Sheffield

Robin’s three Duos for violin and viola, two violas, and violin and cello, explore the possibilities of each combination, often in virtuosic style, and the pieces are both expressive and accessible. 

His string quartet Fantasia on Sheffield was commissioned by the University of Sheffield to celebrate the University’ centenary. It is performed by the Lindsay String Quartet.
